Building a Better Community in CSTAND

NEW THIS YEAR: Technology Integration sessions for classroom and competition beginning at 1:00 PM on Thursday.

Also featured: sessions on Common Core integration of speech standards.

What?  Communication Speech and Theatre Association of North Dakota (CSTAND) Annual Conference.

CSTAND is an organization of educators, coaches, directors, and community members. Its purpose is to support and enrich speech and theatre arts programs, both as academic disciplines and as performing arts, at all levels throughout the state, including high school, college, university, and community; to evaluate current standards of production and training in all areas of speech and theatre arts, elevate those standards to the highest possible level; and to embrace and encourage creative, imaginative, and contemporary programs and practices within the state.   To fulfill this purpose, CSTAND offers this yearly conference filled with teaching tips and techniques for the Speech, Debate, Student Congress, Theatre and English classrooms and co-curricular activities.

Who should attend the conference?  The conference is for new and experienced educators and coaches.  Sessions include technology for the classroom, Common Core integration, and curricular and co-curricular teaching tips.   NDHSAA rules clinics will be offered for One-Act Plays/Theater, Speech, Debate and Student Congress.  Schedule details may be found on the CSTAND website www.cstand.org or by contacting Denise Johnson, Davies High School: johnsod6@fargo.k12.nd.us or Sue Anderson, Richardton-Taylor High School: Susan.L.Anderson@sendit.nodak.edu.

Why?   This conference offers professional learning and networking with other teachers, instructors, and coaches throughout the state.  Membership also provides opportunities for CSTAND awards and scholarships.

Where/When?  The Convention is located at the Mandan Seven Seas, and will take place from Thursday, September 11th - Saturday, September 13th.   Registration information can be found on the CSTAND website www.cstand.org.
