Minot wins NDHSAA Girls Tennis Team Dual State Championship

GRAND FORKS – For the first time since 2001 a team from the West Region has won the North Dakota High School Activities Association girls tennis team dual state championship.

Minot defeated West Fargo Sheyenne 3-2 in the championship dual on Thursday, May 31 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks.

The Magicians picked up victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles as well as a win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the championship.

Minot’s Haya Dodin defeated Preeti Chemiti of West Fargo Sheyenne 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The Magicians also got a win from Eden Olson who defeated Hailey Raan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Minot’s duo of Gwen Mathews and Joelle Fettig rallied to pick up a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pooja Chemiti and Miranda Sommerfeld.

Minot’s last team dual state championship came in 1991. The Magicians have now won six NDHSAA girls tennis team dual state titles in program history.

The last team from the West Region to win a team dual state title was Bismarck Century in 2001.

In Individual Tournament play, Monti Knewtson & Mimi Gu of West Fargo Sheyenne won the 2018 NDHSAA Girls Tennis Individual Doubles State Championship. Shaelyn Johnson of Grand Forks Red River won the 2018 NDHSAA Girls Tennis Individual Singles State Championship.
