GF Red River Wins NDHSAA Class A Girls Golf Team Championship

GRAND FORKS – The Grand Forks Red River girls golf team continued its dominating 2017 campaign this week at the North Dakota High School Activities Association state tournament.

Red River earned its first team state championship since 1997 winning the tournament by 17 strokes on Tuesday, October 3 at King’s Walk Golf Course. The Roughriders went undefeated in East Region play this fall. 

Leading the way for the Roughriders was senior Morgan Hetletved who shot a two-day total of 3-under 141 to earn medalist honors. Hetletved shot a 1-under 71 on Monday to take a five shot lead over teammate Betsy Seaver (4-over 76).

On Tuesday, Hetletved ended her front nine holes with a birdie on Hole 8 and an eagle on Hole 9 to finish 2-under heading into the back nine holes. Hetletved finished strong getting an eagle on Hole 17 and a birdie on Hole 18.

Hetletved, individual runner up a year ago, is the first Red River golfer to earn medalist honors since JoDee Wheeler in 2011.
