CASSELTON, N.D. – It was opening night for Farmers Union Insurance Field at Central Cass High School on Friday, August 31 and oh what an opener it was.

Central Cass – ranked No. 4 in the NDAPSSA Division AA football poll – defeated No. 3-ranked Devils Lake 39-19.

Central Cass senior quarterback Jonah Lietz finished with 290 yards passing and four touchdowns becoming the school’s all-time leading passer.

The Squirrels improved to 2-0 with the win over the Firebirds. The hometown crowd was out in full force to get a look at the Squirrels and the stadium’s new field turf installed over the summer.

The football field turf project was part of the second phase of a massive upgrade to the school’s outdoor athletic facilities in addition to other enhancements to the campus.

Central Cass plays Jamestown at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 7 at Ernie Gates Field in Jamestown.
